Where can I find the transcript for a particular story?

NPR is now offering free transcripts for most of our programming. Simply click on the transcript link on the page of the story of your choice to access the transcript. Transcripts for shows will be available several hours after the program airs.

Where do I find a transcript for a show that aired before 2004?

Transcripts for NPR stories prior to 2004 can be accessed via Lexis Nexis or Proquest. Most university libraries offer these tools. Those who do not have access to these services may contact NPR for archived transcript requests on a limited basis.

Why are transcripts for Fresh Air available but not other programs distributed by NPR?

Some NPR distributed programs maintain their own transcript archives. In these cases, transcript requests must be handled directly by the program in question. You will find a list of public radio programs here.
